  12. Announcing BeastNet! On this historic day, we are pleased to announce
  13. the creation of a new voice for freedom, a new champion of liberty,
  14. and a new means of creating a better life for all Americans. BeastNet
  15. is now online!

  17. What Is BeastNet?
  18. BeastNet is a loosely affiliated private coalition of sovereign
  19. citizens dedicated to fighting the Beast and its agents in all their
  20. manifestations. BeastNet is an electronic champion for free speech,
  21. civil liberties and Constitutional rights.

  23. How Did BeastNet Come to Be?
  24. Any serious examination of the sate of affairs in the world
  25. today--specifically in the United States--is likely to ellicit one of
  26. two typical responses:
  27.  
  28. 1) You experience a shock so great and startling that you are spurred
  29.     to action to right the wrongs of the world, but in the process, you
  30.     lose sanity and any semblance of a normal life.
  31.  
  32. 2) You decide immediately that the situation is hopeless, things
  33.     can't be salvaged, and the best course of action is to sit back and
  34.     chuckle (or perhaps fiddle) while the world burns.
  35.  
  36. The founders of BeastNet are happy with neither of these options, and
  37. have thus decided to combine the two into a
  38. "chuckle-while-we-save-the-world" approach.
  39.  
  40. BeastNet is predicated on the unifying theory that "The Beast" is the
  41. name we have given to that which is despised as contrary to the
  42. peaceful, prosperous and common interests of the nations and
  43. individuals of the world. Similarly, "Agents of The Beast" are people
  44. or orginizations who, either unwittingly or with full cognizance, work
  45. to further the cause of The Beast. The founders of BeastNet understand
  46. that it is not only their right to speak out against injustice,
  47. intolerance and oppression, but in fact their duty as Americans and
  48. citizens of the earth to fight these evils.

  50. The Beast, as you may have guessed by now, is everywhere. It lurks in
  51. the jingles churned out by Madison Avenue ad agencies, hides in the
  52. bumbling ineptitude and petty greed of Washington congressmen, grows
  53. in the fear and ignorance of bigots everywhere, and lingers in the
  54. rank ambition, laziness and incompetence of the hack reporter striving
  55. for the cheap headline.

  57. How Is BeastNet Funded?
  58. BeastNet is a self-sufficient organization and is privately funded by
  59. its members and receives no money or other support of any kind from
  60. government or corporate sources. Currently, BeastNet is not accepting
  61. any outside funding, but that position may change in the near future
  62. depending on the response to BeastNet, the expenses incurred in
  63. administering it and other factors.

  65. What is BestNet All About?
  66. The idea behind BeastNet is to create an open forum on the Internet
  67. where people can exchange information, ideas, opinons and speculation
  68. about the nature and activities of The Beast. BeastNet seeks to
  69. agitate and irritate the powers that be in the mainstream media, big
  70. business, government and other centers of power and status quo. It is
  71. the goal of BeastNet to upset the apple cart in an attempt to provide
  72. all sovereign citizens a fighting chance at the freedoms and equality
  73. supposedly guaranteed by the US Constitution. Ultimately, the goal of
  74. BeastNet is to raise public awareness about The Beast and create a
  75. culture of conscience that is compelled to fight The Beast and its
  76. agents.

  78. How Can Others Get Involved With BeastNe?
  79. You can help fight The Beast by passing along any relevant information
  80. you might find. You can e-mail information to us at
  81. BeastNet@farces.com or upload it to our "incoming" directory at our
  82. ftp site at ftp.farces.com.

  84. You can also help by spreading the word about BeastNet to other places
  85. and people on the Net.

  87. While BeastNet does not impose copyright restrictions on any documents
  88. posted in its archives, some material contained within some BeastNet
  89. documents may be the copyrighted intellectual propoerty of other
  90. entities, used by BeastNet either with or without permission. Be aware
  91. that you may be violating copyright laws by resposting BestNet
  92. materials, although BeastNet encourages the redistrubtion of all its
  93. documents, provided our disclaimers and contact information remain
  94. intact.

  96. What's Next For BeastNet?
  97. Besides our FTP site, BeastNet is planning to launch a series of
  98. mailing lists in the summer of 1994. If you have ideas about what kind
  99. of mailing lists you'd like us to create, please send them in. We'll
  100. also be setting up a Mosaic home page and putting all of our
  101. information on the World-Wide Web.

  103. Outside the Net, look for BeastNet to pull the ocassional prank and
  104. media stunt to draw attention to The Beast and its agents. We would
  105. outline the plans for some of these pranks, but The Beast is no doubt
  106. watching.

  108. Are There Restrictions to BeastNet's Goals and Content?
  109. BeastNet does not advocate or condone in any way activities that are
  110. illegal or harmful to others, eiither on the Net or in the "real
  111. world." BeastNet is not and will not allow itself to be involved with
  112. destructive practices such as computer viruses, homebrew explosives,
  113. violent overthrow of the government or other such acts. BeastNet is a
  114. law-abiding, peaceful organization dedicated to social change and
  115. national justice through raising public awareness.

  117. About Privacy and Security on BeastNet
  118. BeastNet is not necessarily interested in compiling lists of contact
  119. information of those who visit our FTP site. We welcome free and open
  120. communication from all of our members, but we do not require that you
  121. reveal a "true" identity when logging in, nor do we keep any special
  122. files of interested parties unless the specifically ask to be added to
  123. our mailing list.

  125. Our general mailing list is kept private and is not--nor will it ever
  126. be--shared, sold, traded or revealed in any way to any corporate or
  127. government interest. It is a private internal document seen and used
  128. only by BeastNet.

  130. All visits to the BeastNet site are, however, logged. This is because
  131. BeastNet is not the sole occupant or the owner of the server on which
  132. it resides, and in the interest of full disclosure and to help track
  133. traffic for diagnostic purposes, log-ins to BeastNet are captured and
  134. logged. If this is a problem for you, either log in under a psuedonym
  135. or an anonymous account.

  137. If you wish to send an encrypted file to BeastNet, please encrypt the
  138. information using RipEm for the Macintosh. Our public key is at the
  139. end of this file. For some "official" BeastNet files, such as this
  140. one, we have added a digital signature to the file created using
  141. RipEm. If you question the veracity or authenticity of a BeastNet
  142. file, send it (in its original, unaltered state) to us for
  143. verification or download our public key and verify it yourself using
  144. RipEm.
